SEC Is Cracking Down on Chinese Reverse Mergers
By this spring, some 340 Chinese companies listed on U.S. stock exchanges were using small, largely unknown auditing U.S. firms, who in turn may have been contracting the work back out to local Chinese firms, according to the SEC’s chief accountant.Normally, firms using the work of other auditors is not a problem, “but troubles are starting to pop up, given the big geographical distances and language barriers.” This sounds like its going to be a hot button for the SEC:
More is coming. “The SEC has certainly been focusing on it,” says Greg Scates, deputy chief auditor at the PCAOB. “Some work papers are in Chinese and the U.S. auditors can’t even read them. And so there is no way that the auditor can conduct a review or perform appropriate supervision of staff.”

Google Docs – Mobile Editing Added Functionality
Back in November, Google Doc enabled mobile editing of documents, but the functionality was pretty limited. This month they are addition a “desktop version”. The desktop version is really a desktop “mode”. When you select this mode of editing, you are given access to the full formatting tool bar in iPad.
Desktop version is not optimized for a touch interface, but it works. So if you really need to need your document on an iOS device, its a handy feature to have.
RIM’s Playbook a Contender to iPad?
BGR has a video of a hands-on demo of RIM’s Playbook.
Its looks pretty nice and performance doesn’t seem bad. RIM’s Blackberry has a pretty strong foothold in the corporate world. I’ve been reporting that iPad is making inroads to corporations. If Playbook can attract developers and create a healthy app market, it may be a real contender for iPad.
